Transition - Year 6 to Year 7
Dear New Year 7 Parents and Carers,
Welcome to this section on our school website all about Transition to support parents of new Year 7 students through the process of moving from primary school to Harris Academy St John’s Wood.
We would like to say that we are so looking forward to welcoming our new Year 7 cohort who will be joining us in September 2026 and that includes you as the parents too!
Over the next few months, we will be hosting some Transition events and sharing lots of useful information to make the Transition experience as positive as possible for students and for parents, as we believe we will all give our new Year 7 students the best possible start by working together.
If you have a question or concern about Transition, please email info@harrisacademystjohnswood.org.uk

Dear New Year 7 Students,
We understand that it can feel daunting to make such a big important change. Excitingly, the move to secondary school will allow you to engage in new subjects and clubs, as well as making new friends and learning to become more independent. However, we do understand that the move will also come with some worries about managing greater responsibility such as finding your way around an unfamiliar school site and being set more homework.
That is why we will be making sure that through our Transition events you will feel ready to become a successful Year 7 and you will feel welcomed and supported, even before you start on your first day in September.
So, please do not worry, as we are going to do all we can to make you feel a part of the school community and proud to wear your HASJW uniform!

The event is informal and will allow for parents to ask questions and get to know each other as well to meet key members of staff, such as the Principal and the Transition Lead. The discussion will look at the key differences for parents now that their child is at secondary.

Every family comes for a personal meeting with a member of staff to discuss the information you would like us to know about your child, as well as to try on uniform, get your child’s cashless account set up and take your child’s photo for the school system. This allows us to get all the Year 7 systems set up ready for September to make the start of Year 7 as smooth as possible for families. You should expect to be in school for approximately an hour.

Topics will include:

The importance of good attendance

They will have the school to themselves and do lots of fun activities, including some creative ones and some team building and sports. There is no need to wear uniform, and students bring in a packed lunch. There are 60 places available so we will allocate places on a first come first serve basis. If interested, you will be asked to complete your child’s application at the One to meeting on Saturday June 6th.
