Leavers and Destinations

Leavers and destinations

We are always keen to stay in touch with our leavers and utilise our alumni group to help our current students, through their involvement in the delivery of the Careers Curriculum.  A termly email bulletin is sent out to our leavers - see attached our most recent bulletin.  If ex-HASJW would like to be added to the bulletin and/or participate in a Careers Event at school, please contact kate.kopelman@harrisstjohnswood.org.uk

Year 11 leavers: Destinations data

3 year analysis:

  • Constantly, the majority of students want to stay at HASJW for Sixth Form
  • No ongoing trends related to correlation between SEND and NEET data
  • 2% or less each year = unconfirmed destinations
  • Our in-house Careers Team continue to routinely attempt to contact students with unconfirmed destinations or those who are NEET to find out their 2023/4 plans and offer support. We work alongside Westminster Employment Services, as well as Prospects (Children & Young Peoples Services - part of Shaw Trust) and, more recently, also DWP District Office North London Outreach, to support our leavers who are NEET or have unconfirmed destinations. We also work with these teams to facilitate workshops and support for our current at risk of NEET students.

Year 13 leavers: Destinations data

3 year analysis:

  • Majority of students go to university, including approx. 10 SEND students each year

  • Significantly more students took at gap year in 2023 than in previous years, although this aligns with national trend, and these students are being routinely contacted and offered further support in securing employment, education and training. Outstanding ‘gap year’ students and parents have been called to find out their 2024 plans.  Ex-HASJW students may email kate.kopelman@harrisstjohnswood.org.uk for help finding university places or to arrange a careers appointment. Our in-house Careers Team continue to routinely attempt to contact students with unconfirmed destinations or those who are NEET to find out their 2023/4 plans. We work alongside Westminster Employment Services, as well as Prospects (Children & Young Peoples Services - part of Shaw Trust) and, more recently, also DWP District Office North London Outreach, to support our leavers who are NEET or have unconfirmed destinations.

  • SEND students are not disproportionately represented in any one group

  • Over the past three years, 4 of our students have got places at Oxbridge universities. We have also had some brilliant offers of degree apprenticeships, including an offer for a degree apprenticeship with the BBC and King’s College University.
